Description :- Density is defined as Weight per unit volume at specified temperature. It is used for quality control because errors in samples will result in different density readings. They are also described as Relative Density Cup, Specific Density Cup, Weight per Litre Cup, Weight per Gallon cup, liquid Pyknometer. It is made up of Stainless Steel cylindrical in shape which provides larger openings for filling the sample, emptying it and cleaning the cup. The lid which is fitted on the top has a small hole in the center to allow excess sample material to be expelled without entrapping air bubbles.

Applications :  It is used for protective coatings, corrosion control, Coating Laboratories,paint production, Surface finishing, powder coating, decorative coating, building maintenance and other samples.

Procedure for use :

  • Weight the Clean empty cup and lid on a weighing balance accurate to 0.1g.
  • Fill the density cup with paint sample, to within approximately 2mm of the brim.
  • Allow any trapped air bubbles to burst and replace the lid slowly and firmly until it seats firmly on the shoulder of the brim.
  • Fill the cup with paint sample and wipe off any excess paint from the vent and weigh the filled cup.
  • Deduct the weight of the empty cup from the final weight and divide it by 100. The obtained result shall be in grams/cc
